So what if it shows India as a Third World? Dirty, Hungry with Beggars all over!. It is not their mistake to have captured the bitter side of us. It is us the ‘elite’ or ‘rich’ who are not willing to accept the fact that there is A BITTER part of our Nation and there is a stark difference in what it actually is and what we are trying to project.
I saw my friends status message say something like “Why is the world enjoying the ruins of India” not verbatim, something to that effect, like the entire world is eager to watch India as a poor, dirty, developing nation.
It breaks my heart to see them show things like that. It does! But Come on! Lets not be such a hypocrite, are you telling me that they are showing something that does not exist? It is there, right in front of us, staring at our face. It is us who are not willing to look at it. We have tuned our faces the other side scared of what we co exist with. We were never comfortable when it comes to handling the Truth.
When movies like ‘Constant Gardner’ and ‘Blood Diamond’ made it big, everyone kept quite, all the uncles and aunts and mama’s and maami’s said “looks that is the real ‘foreign’ we are trying to copy”! when you are OK with that, why not with SDM?? Those movies gave me tremors, I could not eat properly for the next day or two after watching them. That is the kind of impact some reality leaves on us. They leave us speechless or make us want to bawl our eyes out. Or even more, inspire us to do something to Change them.
Having said that, how many of you cried after watching ‘Forest Gump’ and ‘Terminal’? I did. I still do.
Embrace reality, says my husband. The question is; are we strong enough?
